A spiritual haven located at a distance of about three kilometers
from Rishikesh, Divine Life Society's Forest Academy,
Uttaranchal is a true believer in the tradition of Yoga and
meditation for the enhancement of humanity. Founded in the
venerated Swami Sivananda, Divine Life Society's Forest
Academy, Uttaranchal has grown from a small 'kutir' or
cottage in 1936 to a large institution of spiritual training
recognized on an international level. Numerous monks and devotees
work here as volunteers in service of mankind, the common
man as well as the needy and down trodden.
The institution truly believes that the children
are the hope of bright and beautiful future, and in turn will
create a society founded on brotherhood, love, knowledge and
the belief in God. This is the reason why, many lessons are
taught to the children based on the teaching of the Bhagavat
Gita or the Holy Hindu Scriptures, moral stories, yoga
and devotion.
The Divine Life Society's Forest Academy, Uttaranchal today consist of numerous halls and places of worship namely, Samadhi Hall, Vishwanath Mandir, Bhajan Hall, Music Hall and Gurudev's Kutir, devoted to different purposes. The Kutirs meant to deal with numerous important areas have been established in the premises of the Divine Life Society's Forest Academy, Uttaranchal. The Academy has always concentrated in providing an overall growth to the students and seekers in order to better them as individuals, ready to take on the world at any time yet in a balanced and enthusiastic manner without nurturing human vices in their soul. From providing Scriptural lessons to involving the students in Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, Yoga of Synthasis, Bhakti Yoga and Karma Yoga in the different Kutirs under the names of the lessons, the academy endeavors to enhance the personality and inner strength of the individuals and be one with the Spirit of the Divinity so that they can enhance their concentration and meditation power through yoga and Bhajan, Kirtan and other devotional songs.
The activities held during the course of the day on a daily
basis range from First prayers and Kirtans at the Samadhi
Hall early morning to 'arti' and prayers to Shiva at Vishvanath
Temple. This is followed by Yoga meant only for men at
the Yoga Hall, Second Prayers at the Samadhi Shrine, worship
at the Visvanath Temple, Worship of Durga at the Durga Temple,
reading books at the Library, pursuing music at the Music
Hall in the evening, yoga, prayers, and evening Lectures
and kirtans to end the day. Apart from all these the
Academy provides educational courses on various subjects and
disciplines, which last for mostly, two months for each course.
This way of education helps in the building an individual
as responsible and knowledgeable, aware of his role in the
Society.
